Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hey guys,

Bluegills are one of my favorite fishes to catch on a fly rod.

I'm lookin for other fly fishermans in so cal to go with or if you have any spots you recommend that would be great.

I'm in Orange County, but willing to go to Central or Norcal if the fishing is good.  Most of the fly fishers I know don't like catching bluegills, but not me.  I would take a fat bluegill over anything any day (exception is a hot chick).

Check out the following lakes in Riverside County:
Perris
Skinner
Diamond Valley

Google is your friend when you are researching new fishing locations.
I fish Perris and want to do some fly fishing. Have a pontoon we keep in the marina just for Bluegill.... Shoot me a pM if you are interested.
Hey thanks for the reply I would love to get out to Perris, will split whatever cost with you. what days are you free? i only have weekends.

you can send me an email: spacefrogg5@yahoo.com thanks a bunch, jerry
I live in San Diego but am making the trip up to Perris on Wednesday to check it out. I am not pulling the boat for this initial foray, so will check out the bank and dock fishing. If you guys are around, come over and say howdy. I am the grey haired, fat old geezer in khaki's and a green Cabela's hat. I do not get up with the chickens any more so it will be 10 or 11 before I get there.

What flies do you guys like to use for bluegills out there?
hey bryan,

i just came back from a fly fishing trip this weekend, the flies i use that works really well are foam spiders, swimming spiders, nymphs, san juan worms, etc. you really don't need all that, but i like to play around and see what patterns work. if you only had to take 2 patterns, make the foam spider and the swimming spider called the cap spider or bully's spider works also.
I also find any fly with rubber legs works well. Especially Nymph patterns. One of my favorite patterns to use sub surface around here is the "Flanders Rubber Leg Nymph". I will post a how-to on how to tie it soon.
