Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hi , just joined up . I've been visiting and enjoying for awhile and decided to join up hoping to share some of my experiences .
Here's a couple of shellcrackers I caught yesterday using one of my micro jigs under a weighted float .
I've become addicted to fishing with the jig and float rig . I love watching that float disappear . You never know what decided to grab your jig . Gillchaser

WELCOME TO BIG BLUE GILL ; GILL CHASER !!  LOOKS LIKE YOU GOT A COUPLE OF NICE CRACKERS; CONGRATS TO YA ON THEM !    YES SIR;; JIG FISHING IS FUN;; AND ACCOUNTS FOR A LOT OF GREAT CATCHES!!    SO WHAT TYPE OF JIG DID YOU USE;; DID YOU MAKE IT??  HOW DEEP WERE YOU FISHING; AND ;; DID YOU TIP YOUR JIG ?

Thanks Carl , I used a 1/80th jig I tied up . That one was tied to resemble a black wooly booger . Tied using black chenille for the body , tail using black zonker rabbit fur , with a hackle palmered down the body .
I used to fly fish a lot ,but find using jigs and weighted floats less wearing on the shoulders .
I was fishing about 24" below a 1" weighted bobber .
I've tried tipping my jigs with crappie bites , but really didn't see any improvement .
I was fishing out from a friend's backyard that lives on a pond near me . He has about 150 feet of shore to fish from in the upper end of the pond . So the water is fairly shallow . Gillchaser

GillChaser… looks like we are in the same boat. Due to neck, shoulder and arm pain I reduced my fishing down to UL slip floating for a while last summer floating on a kayak. At one point I thought I would have to give up fishing. Ended up having a great year. Did most of my fishing shallow in less than 2’ FOW fishing the slop and thick weed edges.

I had to give up fly fishing for the most part also.

A lot of fly tyers on this site… you should fit right in. think about sharing a photo of your jig tie… we eat that up on this site
