Although this post isn't about bluegill, I suppose this method could be used if one wanted to troll for them. I have found a certain shallow diving crank bait that works well for catching the striper and hybrids on my lake, and I thought I would give using snap weights a try, to pull the baits lower in the water column. I know this is a commonly used practice on the great lakes for salmon and walleye, and I thought it would cross over well for striper. I have two down riggers I use for my outside rods, but have always had limited success on the flat lines out the back using deep diving crank baits. I am hoping that using the snap weights well ahead of the shallow diving cranks will improve the hook up ratio of the two rods I run out the back, without spooking the fish. Anybody have any thoughts on this?
