Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Sorry for getting a bit Zen but over the last few months, I've been using a 5 foot bamboo pole, size 18 -32 hooks, hot dog bits, one lb test and have had the most amazing time catching. Most gills range  3-5 inch. Fun to actually catch the fish you see. Don't think I'll ever go back to a rod and reel or even a 10+ foot telescopic. Started this journey last year and now I'm convinced that simple is better. Never smiled so much in my life.

Havnt broke into the Tenkara yet… spent the past spring and summer fishing season adapting to fishing without my boat. Shore fishing and then Kayaking filled the gaps. Not as productive as fishing from my jon but still got out there.

Glad you found your Zen.

Interesting thing about those hot dog bits… been meaning to try that comparing to the GULP waxie bits ive been hooked on even stretching into ice fishing season.

Your cane pole… how is that rigged? Do you have line guides along the blank?

Just tied to the top metal ring via a loop connection. One lb test is like angel hair. Hot dogs have been my mainstay for the last three years. I read an article on English lunch meat fishing and gave it a try. Never had it fail.
