Wow, guys, I just got home from our favorite hybrid sunfish pond and I finally got some on a spoon...a 1/8 oz Swedish Pimple that I worked quickly with occassional snaps and tight- lined it on the drop back. The two hybrids I did catch on the spoon crushed it, and fought like demons possesed. They struck on the 'fall-back' from a rod snap, and made my ul rod double up.
What amazingly powerful fish! I had to 'play them out' and drag-screamin was in order. Got 5 altogether, 3 on the standard Gronaw/slip-sinker/worm rig and two powerhouses on the Pimple.
Bill, you're gonna be proud of me , man! I can now join the Spoonchuckers and get in on all the heavy metal slabbin' that I've been missin out on!
And Bullworm, I finally figured out how to get some of those trophy hybrids....leave Linda at home!
Jim, those are two mighty fine fish, your holding there.Glad to see the spoons worked for you.It took me a little time to get the hang of them just like using any lure though. I think the shallow water pond fishing really helped when i could see how it worked on the drop.I think the drop, with the swede is key, in the right conditions,it also has a nice, tail waggle, when retreived at the right speed.
Now I'm wondering how to make the rest of them work to their full potential, too.
