Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

For some reason I've always leaned more tward the natural colors, brown, green, and a bright chartruse or orange tail seemed to work, but now I'm kind of get'n a hang up for bright multi colored fish gitters, pink & white is in this year.

Several things I'm curious about is since shades of browns & greens are a more natural I seem to have more confidence in them, but I've also read that Blue Gills are attracted to bright colors & have read articles about guys getting the long string banners with multi colored triangles on them that car lots put up to get your attention & putting them under water to the gills to gather around them because they like the colors.

Whats some of your fave producing colors ?? & your thoughts as to why they work??

I too like natural colors. Browns, tans, gray. I'm a fly fisherman mainly though so my flies are to imitate insects, I also fish attractor patterns in like red/white, green/black. But I stick with the natural colors most of the time.

Thanks fro the reply, actually more info/opinions would be posted up, but maybe since gills aint so picky about what they take fisherman dont have to worry with choosing the color of the day.

I agree, pretty much all colors will work! :) Chart. and pink is a good color for any panfish too though. For some reason I think red makes fish mad though...I have had decent success on red with just about any fish from gills to silvers.

Red, red and black, orange, and pink have traditionally produced well for me.

Funny that you mention long string banners in that I'm having tremendous success with something very similar! I cut 1 1'/2" to 2" strips in a thin width ,pointy tail shape out of ultra thin plastic in grocery bags. These have the best shimmying action possible on small jigs or flies and come in translucent colors (I prefer "clear" blue), tho some baggies are very colorful over the printing & logos on them ! I've read that "clear" lures often remind fish of zooplankton they ate in their younger years. Last weekend, around Pymatuning res in PA,bright skies following a cold front nearly blanked most of many fisherman around, yet I "bagged" over 400 fish, including some nice bluegills, very large perch, hordes of crappies, and a healthy batch of  largemouth bass!Translucent & "nearly nothing" trailers may be the ticket this season!

Funny you mention clear lures. I just bought a clear, Heddon Spook Puppy, and the big bass are absolutely killing it.
