Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hi,

My fifteen year old and I spent about 3.hours Saturday after in West Central Indiana chucking nymphs and dry flies.to fish we could see but didn't draw more than a slight bit.of interest from the fish. Was it probably just too cold still?

The water is certainly chilly right now. Many spots are just now opening up after the long ice cover. Try going with a small presentation, say a size 12 or smaller and see what happens. A little live bait on the hook wouldn't hurt either, especially this time of year.

Tehanks Tony. My son tried that but to no avail. We're probably getting ahead of ourselves a little. :)

We know the trout will bite so we will go after those a while til the.real fish start :)

My brother in law caught a nice 15.inch stocked trout one time when we were 'gill fishing. Once he saw what it was he exclaimed " man! Look at that trash fish messing up my bluegill fishing!" I practice more "diversity" and am usually happy with about any fish that bites. ;)

Caught bunches of dink crappie, channel cats and a big carp at Monroe last Saturday
