Do you love big bluegill?
Managed to catch a few fish today at the South Edisto River, outside Aiken, SC - bass, catfish and brim.
1. The LM bass was 16"-18". I caught the fish on a South Bend Super Duper 502 (these are now made by Luhr Jensen) -
I was using a Zebco/Quantum Ultralight spinning combo w/4lb test. This bass was a special catch because no sooner had I cast out the lure, the #$%& reel bird nested. So, while I was fiddling with the tangled line - the bass stuck the lure.
There I stood, tangled up in a mess of gossamer line, cussing - and battling a bass in the water. In the end, I just tossed the rod in the weeds and hand-lined the fish to a landing!
2. Catfish/bullhead
Caught on bottom, 4 -5 ft of water, egg sinker "Fishfinder" rig on pink worms. It was a white and mottled olive pattern, with grey fins.
3. Bluegill
Not much to tell here - most were kinda small, hand sized at best. Caught most of them on a slip float drifted along the shore break, and among the blow down and stumps clogging the rivers edge.
Tomorrow, I'm taking a camera, dangit! You know what'll happen right? I wont catch a single fish
