Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I got excited about the prospect of using spoons to fish for bluegills
, having never actually seen( except in pictures) the spoons I jumped
right in and bought a bunch online. Well, imagine my surprise when they
arrived, these things are huge
, I don't see myself catching any bluegills with these things. I could
really use some encouragement , I'm wide open for some tips.

Got any 16TH oz. and lighter ? They'll work.
Spoons work great....what size and type did you purchase?.....1/16- 1/4oz should be good.
How do you fish with spoons? What kind of rod & reel combo?
The spoons I bought were a mixture of 1/8 and 1/4oz . This is a photo of them

All of the spoons you have pictured will catch gills with the exception of the KO Wobbler....http://www.bigbluegill.com/profiles/blogs/deep-water-spoon-presenta...

I would start with the Blue Fox and Kastmaster spoons.
Hey guys, Bills blog and group on spoon chucking is the absolute gospel on the subject. I read it all last year and applied it to gilling in my local lakes. It took a while, and I am by no means any fragment of an expert at it, but I got to the point where I could catch fish on the spoons with a reasonable degree of consistancy. Included were some whoppers.

Before I toss spoons this season, you can bet I'll be re-reading the info he has provided us. When some one can teach another fisherman a great technique from 700 miles away, well, it has to be good!
check out the ice fishing lures for pan fish
I've stuck over 100 bluegill this ice season on a 1/12 oz gold kastmaster tipped with bee moth.
Invest some time... and patience... and read anything you can by Bill MuskyMod... he is the reigning Wizard of the Spoon and methods of fishing them... there are already many posts here regarding the use of these 'DEADLY' lures.... spend a couple of hours researching what's already on this site... and you will be rewarded.... "And the Oscar goes to"...

Do some research on micro spoons.  They are killers

One of the problems Ive encountered is it is hard to find spoons that weigh less than 1/8 oz. It is generally accepted that only the largest brim feed on small fish with any regularity - which spoons are designed to imitate.  SO that is in your favor... this pre-selects the largest brim for you.

But finding spoons small enough to fit their nickle sized mouths is a problem. Everything I see looks like a juggernaut compared to a brim. So I have a rule of thumb for this: if it looks small - it's too big. Keep looking.

One thing you can do is haul out your ice fishing jigging spoons, especially the flutter spoons. Look at the ones I've shown here:

Some people call these "micro spoons." I got em off ebay for a few bucks. This particular bunch are "kinda weedless" wobblers, which can be fished slowly. That is important - brim are not big bait chasers, like other predatory fish. They are more ambush oriented.

Try hooking a small strip of flayed belly skin from a juvenile brim on a spoon like this as a trailer, and tease it around weed edges near deeper water. Just enough of this skin to look enticing. Pull it along and stop it, letting it flutter. Twitch it a little and repeat as necessary, attempting to imitate a wounded baitfish.

I dont know if this will work; Im thinking out loud here. But if you think like the fish, you stand a better chance.
