Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I was wondering if you can catch BG when it gets dark, I did read that they find food mostly by sight.

Mathew , I love BIG BLACK BUGS for NIGHT FISHING!!!!! Leach PATTERNS, this is a SEAL-BUBBER!!!!!!! What kind of NIGHT CRITTERS do YOU have DOWN THERE that would DISCOURAGE NIGHT FISHING?????

I don't use lights except to tie on FLIES or REMOVE a HOOK!!!! They take away YOUR NIGHT VISION!!!!!

I've got many a bluegill night fishing thru the ice. I'll turn the shanty lights on and after a while the gills will funnel in. They are sight feeders, but have extremely sensitive lateral lines. So sensitive, in fact, they can feel the disturbance of a passing fish in the water for up to 5 minutes after it passed. So if you're in a good gill area, when you drop down the hole and jig, combined with the slight wiggle of your spike or waxies, catching gills is quite likely. A full moon and shanty lights, game on!! Don't know about summer, I competitive bass fish then, I only fish gills thru the ice.
