Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

How to send a bad Bluegill to the corner? (in a round pond)

I'll have to take a picture of these plastic containers, 4'x4'x4' cubes, but until I do....
I was wondering, could I put one of these containers in my pond as a holding tank for HBG & GS, not to torture them, but until I've caught enough of them to have a fry? I would drill holes for circulation, but how many could I keep in that space? I've only owned my home for 1 month, but previous owner fed the fish pellets of some kind, and, I was thinking, I'd fatten them up before the harvest. YIKES, there I go thinking again!

That's a great idea. Similar to cage culture. Here's how I hold my bluegill to "fatten them up"
Scary, isn't it?

In all seriousness, somebody started a thread on Pond Boss recently about designing a cage for just that purpose. There's also been articles on "cage culture" in recent Pond Boss magazines by Bill Cody who is a member of Big Blugill right here.
How many to you fatten up at a time in that size container? It appears to be about the same volume as cubes are.
I raise 50 pounds of fish easily in that container.
Thanx Bruce! So does that mean about 10 of YOUR fish?

I wish! :P Actually it's about 90 right now.
Bruce, when are you gonna insulate the Morton building? The more you use it, the quicker it would pay off.
My logic exactly. The Morton building is insulated with 3/4 inch something or other. The coldest the building has ever been is about 25 F in the main area, and about 30 F in the fish room. I'd dearly love to have warm water to raise the bluegill in.
3/4" might mean you've got like R-6 walls. If you filled up that open stud space with insulation, MJ wouldn't have to wear a hat.
I made a cage once out of a rabbit cage by covering it with screen, and floating it in my pond. I wanted my new coppernose bg to get a little bigger before I released them so they wouldn't get eaten. I have no idea how they got out, but every one of them did. Your idea looks like it would work a lot better.
When did you get your coppernose?

What size were they?

Where did you get them?
you know I was just thinking about this. No really. This applacation for my Talapia to winterize in. It would be cheeper them booking them a trip to Brownsville.
How were you planning to winterize your Tilapia, can you give more details?
