What type of animal is a bluegill?
Four shallow ponds. Spring fed. .6, .8, .9 & .4acres. I live in the Karst area around Mammoth Cave, in Cave Country were most ponds are subject to developing "holes" and draining into the cave system.

Greetings from Nebraska, from a transplanted Kentuckian.

I see you are from Horse Cave and that puts you very near my parents. They live just outside Magnolia on the Larue/Hart county line. They got hit pretty good by the storm and still did not have power as of Tuesday of this week. I anticipate they should have been back up on Thursday, at worst. Hope all is well with you on that respect.

I was born in Franklin and have lived in Greensburg, Glasgow, Lexington and Louisville. Got transferred to Omaha, Nebraska about 15 years ago, and only get back home about once a year, usually in the middle of the summer. I'm married with three boys and two dogs, so it's like moving a small army to coordinate everyone's schedule and get back for a week or two each year.

Good to see a fellow Bluegrass boy posting here. This is a good site started by a Nebraska guy who surely has a passion for fat gills. There are some nice places to fish out here, but it is a big change from what I was used to in Kentucky. Mostly, open areas with shallower lakes around Omaha. Much agricultural runoff and silting in of lakes, but some good bass, panfish and cats. LOTS of wind on the Great Plains, so its nice to get the occasional calm day and not get blown off the water.

Anyway, take care and tight lines.

Thanks a lot for starting the fly rod discussion. I think this is very important to this website to include fly-fishermen. At some point, if you have the time, I would love it if you would start a discussion in regards to flies used for bluegill with pictures attached. If you want, I could also assist you with putting the photos up. Then after people's fly photos are attached we could put it in a blog post in a really prominent location in the site. That way if a flyfisherman made a first visit to bigbluegill they would see some nice color photos of effective flies. I'll do as much of the work as you'd want, but I'd certainly credit you for moving the site in that direction. I'm learning, too!

Thanks a lot for joining, Fred.

I hope you'll enjoy the big bluegill site. We'd love to see a picture of yourself with a bluegill sometime!
