Hi bruce I was 5 mins from leaving and a front was pushing threw I had a bobber lay down and i missed her but she came back and I nailed her I pulled her up and she came off I then kicked the big shebull by my dads sled and he said thats what were after and I then said we can go now
Thank you Bruce, hope you and yours had a happy Thanksgiving also.
I hope to learn a lot and converse with other gill lovers. Looking forward to doing some serious ice fishing and it may not be too far off as the weather here has been staying cold.

hi Bruce thanks for the note,i catch chinks all year . of course the fishing is slower in the winter. i caught my first good mess on the 20th of march this year. all males they where bumping the beds( water is still to cold for a spawn, but the big males start checking out the beds) that is when i catch most of the largest chinks.
some biologist say chinks (red ear) unlike gills ,only spawn once a year, and that a few specialized fisherman can hurt the red ear population is some lakes because of this.
i try not to take to many big ole big'uns but i do mark the ones i let go,and i have caught these again.
the red ear can be real aggressive just before and right after the spawn, and i have caught them biting like gills fast and furious.
i tie a grass shrimp that does real well on chinks, but a midge fly larva will catch them when nothing will.
well i have rattled on enough i had better turn around and do some flis,i haven't tied any this week.shooter
I don't know if you already know about it but it is interesting to read about the Second best bluegill! You can find it in google.com. The Second Best Bluegill. By Louis Bignami in www.finefishing.com
Its same story that I readed in an old Outdoor Life magazine. The Sneaky truth about big bream. By John E. Phillips.
Hard to believe that 4 lbs 12oz, 4lbs 10 oz, 3 lbs 8 oz, 2 lbs 8 oz and I am sure a few more over 2 lbs all came from one lake.....Ketona Lake! I heard its not as good as old days!
I see my pops finally took my advice and is now a member of big bluegill. Get ready for some awsume pics and even better recip. I taught him everything I know!!!!
Hi Bruce,
Thank you for make me feel welcome to Big Bluegill Club!
How to add picture in post? Like show my picture of my kayak in someone's post. All I see is Relay back.
I cooked up a good mess of bream fillets just last night. Man were they good! I change up recipies from time to time depending on what mood I'm in at the time. Last night I soaked the bream in some water, bout 1/8 cup of lemon juice, and about a tablespoon of crab boil for about 15-20 minutes. Afterwards I season em up with salt, Peppercorn Melange, Lawry's season salt, garlic powder, and paprika. I mix cornmeal with flour at about 3 to 1 and coat em up real good before they go in the oil. The crab boil gives em a nice little kick but not too overpowering. Try it out and let me know how you like it.
This would be a pound and a half shell cracker I caught while bass fishing. That rascal jumped all over my Bandit crankbait and tried his best to take it away from me. Lotsa fun that day!!!
Thanks Bruce. Jeremy Mayo told me about this site and said I have to sign up and become a member. I recently went fishing with Jeremy and was reminded of how much fun I'd been missing by not using a bream pole and crickets. I've been bass fishing for quiet some time now and had gotton away from the bream but I've recently purchased a 12ft. pole and a cricket cage and now I'm bream busting again... I look forward to adding some nice photos in the near future.
Looks like the wind and tides are gonna make it even harder than I thought.... Tides gonna fall out sat by lunch and the north wind may never let it flow back in. Its down rite pleasent down here still. highs still in the upper 70s water temps begining to drop down in the lower 60s..... Its kinda like a dog when you let em out on a cold mornin. They just run and play and go nuts in the cold. I discovered a hillarious color for my swim bait used to catch those specks with... ELECTRIC CHICKEN! Who ever woulda thought of a color like that?
I havnt been avoidn the site... just a lot of stuff consumin what few min i have durrin the day. I love the site and all but you aint gettin my fishn time. Days are short and the fishins gettin harder in the delta. Catchin bass specks and crapie but Im still gettin a few crickets and checkin out the blue gill holes here and there. Were going to try and pull a super grand slam this weekend....... 1 of each. Bluegill, Bass, Crappie, Catfish, Speck trout, Red fish, and a Flounder. WHAT A CHALLANGE! I love livin on the mobile delta cause..... Yes sir. It can be done in 1 day.

Haven't many pictures, but hope to learn more about the mighty Gil here.Thanks.
Hey Bruce
Great site. Don't have pics of my big fish. We do catch alot of big bluegill out of Lake Perris. On 11/01/08 my partner and I both had 11 1/8 bluegill as well as a pair of 27" catfish all on 2lb test line and custom tied jigs.
Hope to post some pics in the near future...
Bruce: We are going to run the link to this website in In-Fisherman. I am looking for high resolution images of bluegills from your website to run with the link. Website shots are too low resolution to run in print. Hoping that you can provide some nice high resolution shots. Please give me a call at the In-Fisherman number. Thanks! Chuck
i have been looking for land for some time now but all the land i can afford is 2+ hours away from my work so it isnt worth it. But i still want to make a pond. My buddies father in law has a pond its about 25 feet deep, he has mostly hybrids, he wont let me take photos of his fish , but most of them are close to 12 inches. i thought i would try 25 feet to start if i ever had a pond ,but you have nice fish, if i can get away with a shallower pond it would be cheaper$. but i bet you have your secrets on how to maintain healthy fish. any tips?
