Hey Howard...indeed tip-up fishing is both permitted and popular at DCL...most of the bigger northerns this year were tip-up fish, with top specimens going 14 to almost 20 lbs. Annually, walleyes to 10 lbs and chain pickerel to 24 in are taken. We have taken gills up to 11 1/2 in. It's quite a lake, but you have to work to catch the fish, like any place else, there is a learning curve.

Hey Howard,

The St. Johns river originates in west Vero bch FL and runs North to Jacksonville FL and then out into the ocean. It is the only river in FL that flows North. It's a pretty good Bluegill fishery as well as Bass.

Tight lines,

unHOOKum Terry

Hey Howard....good for you and your wife! I am glad that the shiner rig worked for you. Looks like that bass took it really deep...with circle hooks, all you need to do is just tighten up and reel in the fish. We haven't killd a fish in several seasons of shiner fishing like this. Congrats!

Hey Howard, try using a lightweight steel leader or else some green Sonic Braid in 30 to 40 lb test for a nice , tough, yet supple leader for those pike. I would use a Mutu Light Circle hook at 4/0 to 6/0, depending on the size of your pike. Run a slip bobber so the shiner can move around from 3 to 7 ft deep. Hook the shiner through both eyes or lightly behind the top dorsal fin. Check out our rigs for bait on big largemouths in this months ( June) In Fisherman. The Rawlings shiner rig may be your best option for those pike. Good luck!
