Thanks, glad I found your site. We moved into a new home, there are 5 or 6 ponds within 2 blocks of our home. One is literally in our back yard. Lots of bluegill, but mostly pretty small. I've caught one over 10". We fish almost every night and catch something. Glad to be here, looks like a great resource. I'm very new to fishing.
I'm getting my stuff from Cabela's today. I also wanted to try out a few different lines. I'm getting the hi-vis neon green Sufix 832 6lb/2lbdia for my 5'6" ultra light rod and some hi-vis yellow Power Pro 8lb/1lbdia for my 7' med light rod. I have my old poles passing down to my girl that I'm trying Spiderwire 10lb/2lbdia on.
I've only been using my old poles with the Spiderwire and Holy Smokes can that cast far! I really liked it a lot compared to my old mono I had on there. It is not exactly wind friendly though. I could still cast it super far, but the line staying on top with a bobber let the wind catch it and make it impossible to use more than 2 poles without getting all in each other's way.
The only other line I would have liked to try would be the Firewire Crystal 6lb/2lbdia line, but my brother has some on his lines I could probably swap poles with him for a day to check it out.
I'll probably try out the new equipment tonight for a little bit and really get a nice long look at it over this weekend. I can let you know what I think of them if you want?
That's awesome! Keep me updated of your progress weekly so we can tackle any issue before the hotel becomes the death row. Make sure to keep them close to 86°F if you can. Don't exceed more than 89 or they will die one by one, or en mass.
Hey Dick, thanks for the welcome. I'll hit the field for the first time in 2012 this weekend and I'm determined to bring back something worth bragging about to the group. At the very least, I need a profile photo worth posting.
I'll be hitting Lake Perris in southern California. The bite hasn't really turned on yet, but I'm hoping the hot weather expected the next couple of days will kick start things to coincide with my first outing.
Yeah Dick, my gills are starting to feed again too. weather is nice again, and i cannot wait until i can get on the water. I just don't know when that will be. Working all week and planting potatoes this week end. busy busy busy.
Thank you for the warm welcome. I am an avid bluegill fisherman, I even have a tattoo of a bluegill on my arm. I fish for them because they're fun to catch and they taste fantastic! I accidently found this site and I figured what the heck. I like to read about what guys are using, methods and their thoughts. Anything to help me improve my fishing experience is a bonus for me. So, thank you again and I look foward to browsing this site, and helping out (if I can) other fellow big bluegill fishermen.
Hi Dick Sorry that it has taken me so long to get my thank you out for such a nice wecome post that you sent. I can see that there is a lot of info. on this site. Now I just have to learn how to get to all of it. I have never belonged to a site b/4 so there is a lot to be learned. I live in Two Rivers, Wi. and I don't fish lake Mi. I just fish our smaller inland lakes. I sometimes go to Green Bay or Lake Winnebago I fish mainly forBG and other pan fish. As per your post I have tried the chat site but to no avail must be doing something wrong. Again thank you for the welcome Jim
Dick, thanks for the welcome to the site. Plan to try the fly rod for gills this spring and summer...life is not just about trout (or so my wife tells me). Need to learn some effective patterns, though.
Dick, that is freaking large sample population to grow your worms. You'll have a massive colony real soon. Give me a call or I'll message you with good details.

Hey Dick...looks like you really slayed em this weekend! Crappies, gills, perch...and all of them looked to be great eating sized fish as well!
Great job! And you are a great ambassador of this site. Thanks so much for your involvement in BBG!

Thanks. In just the small amount of time I've browsed so far, it seems like a great site!

Thanks Dick, like many people I fish for almost any fish I can, but I love catching big bluegills and nothing tastes better in the pan.
