Thank you Dick for including me into the group! I have been fishing and catching Bluegill for over 55 years and each one I catch is just as exciting as the first! I caught my first Bluegill when I was 4 years old and I was hooked from then on! In my mind, there is nothing better than using a light weight flyrod and catching gills at spawning time. I find it interesting, how much attention Bluegill get during icefishing season. So many anglers spend open water season looking for big Bass, Walleye, etc., but as soon as the ice is ready, you'll find these same anglers in search of Bluegill! If I had a dollar for every hour I've spent on the ice, I'ld be a very rich man! I plan to enjoy this site and will be posying comment frequently. I have already invited 3 others to take a look! Talk with you soon! Paul Hofmann.

Hi Dick thanks for the intro to the site I really love big bluegills but do not get to fish for them as often as I would like. I am an outdoor writer/photographer and pursue so many species that the bluegill gets left out but then I could say the same thing about other species depending on where my writing takes me each season. The one thing I have only done once in my life is ice fishing and I would really love to do some of that especially for those big gills. I tend to get cabin fever here in Indianapolis but I know I am closer to ice fishing here than my home in Tennessee and would love to get into it more. I did work in Alaska for 20 years but mostly in the summers so I never did any ice fishing there either. Great site and I will be visiting more and if you or any of your members would like to submit articles for my website I would be glad to add your sites information and links back to your site. If you would like to see my site you can let me know and I will send you a link as I don't want you to think I am using this as a way to promote my site. Thanks for your time and hope to enjoy some of your ice fishing videos to help get me through this winter.

Thanks

Ken McBroom

The Rocky River is my home stream, just a mile away. It is a great steelhead stream being stocked annually by ODNR, Ohio dept.natural resources. The planters go out to Lake Erie and in about 2 - 3 years come back to spawn at about 6 to 8 pounds and 26 - 28 inches. Since they don't die after spawning they return to the lake and probably grow to 30+ inches in the next year and return at about 10 to 12  pounda.

Considering that the Rocky is never more then 150 feet wide  except at the mouth, it is an exciting game to land one of these MANISTEE STRAIN steelhead. They jump 10 ft dams and fight the same way - up in the air and up and down the river.

I fish for them on a 6 weight rod and outfit with my own flies that have proven themselves over the years - streamers and nymphs and eggs - but especiGreat Lakes Emerald shiner, which is a main food source in Lake Erie and in the rivers flowing into it.

But that's a different subject.  Our bluegills locally are usually small due to over population in the ponda and lakes bu a few ponds have 10+ inchers that are great fun. The Richmond Hill Lake fish in the videos are remarkable.  Got to stop there in the spring.  Have to get the details on a trip.

From reading all the comments on your page from new members I think that you are the Official Welcome Wagon. Allow me to add my "Thanks for the Welcome, Dick". I'm new to all this computer messaging & doubt that I will ever figure out how to post a picture. Just making the !#&*^@! keyboard spell correctly is a real challenge! I don"t get to fish much anymore (back surgeries, no fishing partner, no boat, new location & unfamiliar with what waters are available, etc.) but I will visit often and I know I will enjoy the stories/photos/tips/techniques that you guys share. Thanks, again, Dick, for making me feel welcome!
