I use a ultralight reel on a 6 1/2" fiberglass rod, (more play when that gill turns his slab side towards you) . Using #6 hook below a slip bobber for easy depth changes I put on either waxies, redworms or crickets. Fish the drops, starting shallow and going deeper till you hit them. This works on any lake I have been on.

I like to use 14 ft pole, light line, no. 10 hook and tiny float! Fish deeper around any covers like fallen tree, bottom of edge of weedbed, rocks, etc! One red worm or two maggots!
