Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I've got this one spot along the Appomattox River where I have caught an incredible amount of different species of fish. They are: Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Bluegill, Redbreast Sunfish, Walleye, White Perch, Chain Pickerel, Channel Catfish, White Catfish, and Yellow Perch. That's an incredible 10 species at just one spot! Further downstream I have also caught Fallfish, Smallmouth Bass, and Bluehead Chub. Total of 13 species in the vicinity of Amelia, VA and Petersburg, VA. I'm fairly certain there are Stripers, Bowfin, and Gar available also.

Hey N - the 2 best bank fishing spots I have found are at the Route 602 (Bevels Bridge Rd) bridge near Amelia and at Appomattox Riverside Park in Petersburg. I had to walk a good mile or more upstream to get to the good spot in Petersburg. It’s a walking trail there.

Whereabouts do you go?  My mom lives in that area, and I'd love to have a decent place to fish when I go visit once or twice a year.

That's fantastic Ben ! Love a multi species fishing experience. I am lacking catching a White Catfish , Spotted Bass Gar and Striper but have caught a Bowfin , many Black Crappie , Brown , Rainbow and Brook Trout, Green Sunfish, Pumpkinseed ,Yellow and Brown Bullhead Golden Shiners, Fathead Minnows in addition to those others you mentioned .I can't report that they all came from the same body of water like your great Appomattox river spot ,but these were caught within less than a half hours drive or walk from where I live .
