The Fall Creek Falls bluegill, the earlier Tennessee record, was caught by Thelma Grissom. The later tying fish was caught by Brad Pendergrass.

I can only speak for Vermont I think bigger Blues and sunnies have been caught that were never reported. Where Vermonts record gill is reported to have come from is a huge part of the river. I have toured the area but never fished there.
Our state record sunnie is only 14 oz, How ever there were two men that i know very well were fishing for bass in lake champlain in about 30 feetof water they spoke with disgust about the huge pumpkinseeds that keep as they called it grabbing there bait. They both at different accounts refered to these fish as being larger than dinner plates. This fishing trip happened over 30years ago I called the living one the other day his story was just the same as it was years ago they were using nightcrawlers and minnows. He could not recall if any of the sunnies bite on the minnows or not the gentalman turned 83 last december. He stated that these darn fish would make you think you were pulling a huge bass in. He thought they were using 8 or 10 pound test eagle claw #2 hooks. He and his partner fished many times after that and never caught that sized again. He would not guess if they would make a pound or not he said they were big for pumpkinseeds

You go into someones house and see large bass, walleye, but you never see record blue gill. But of course record blue gill are harder to catch. Look at the dates on those records. Most folks cuss them around here, throw them back. Good for me.

Sorry Bruce...I went astray..Dont really know if N Jersey makes a distinction.

I wonder how many of these state records were caught in some reservoir that is off limits people snuck into and reported a different water ...like a private pond! This sort of thing happens and I dont really care except when someone tries to dupe folks who do. I live near a border lake and I've heard it has happened before where someone will catch a fish on the NY border and verify it in NJ as a record and vice versa. If this is true ,what an immature thing to do!

I wonder how many of these state records were some sort of hybrid bluegill (HBG) ? For me the pre 1980 records as suspect regarding pure stain BG. Does anyone know if some states consider HBG and BG the same when it comes to a state record?
