Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Picture of my 9 year old sons biggest Hybrid, caught last summer at Lake of The Ozarks MO.

He caught the fish all by himself, casting a 5 inch swim bait.

We photographed and released the fish.

He had another one hooked on a live shad, that fought for a long time, but eventually came off. We never did get the fish up close enough to see it.

Come on warm weather!

Jim,
I have to agree. Other than hooking into a big King Salmon, Hybrids will strip more line off your reel than any fish I know of. At least in fresh water!

Thanks for the compliment. I'm so happy he loves the sport of fishing. It helps to have a dad that is a fanatic also!

Someone asked me what kind of fish I was catching when I was his age, and I told them it was a bluegill. My father liked to fish, but never put me on a fish like that. We caught eight hybrids that morning and a bonus Walleye. All the fish were released unharmed after being photographed.

Wow! That is a sensational fish, and a sensational photo! Good for you guys! I can truely say that, for shear strength and power, I have never caught a fish that can match a big hybrid striper.
