Do you love big bluegill?

Egret ? Crane ?

My 15 year old son Garrett took this picture the day before Mother's Day. He takes most of the pictures I post. Birds, fish and other wildlife are his favorite subjects.

The other day, a middle-aged couple came paddling by in their canoe while I was fishing. They struck me as eco-greenie, L.L. Bean wearing, bird watcher types. I hollered and waved, asking if they had seen anything interesting.

They looked up from the drudgery of paddling, and perked right up... "Oh, yes - we saw an egret!"

It seems they were pleased to see the critter.

It struck me that I was fishing easy, kicked back in my river chair and munching a sammich... while they were worn to a nub from paddling a'way up river. I thought I might tell them about the egret that was sitting right across from me all morning, and they could have saved themselves a lot of work.

But I just smiled and waved again. "Well, isn't that nice. I'm sure it was worth the trip!"
