You might not be able to tell by the photo, but the line is running through a large loop made in the guitar string. When turned with the guides facing down toward the ice, the line runs against the bottom of the loop, just like any other guide or tip-top on a spinning reel. I just turned this to the side so everybody could see the gold line.

Love that tune! Jim does the line slip off the edge of the protruded part of the string?Or is there loop at the end of the wire indicator .I cant tell here.
