Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Obviously "not" a pure Bluegill.... but you will never see a pure Green Sunfish this round either.

Hey Jim, it is..... but their are some very interesting aspects to this;
I guess what it has the most of, is straight up, pure Bluegills. But the next closest in numbers, are these hybrids ??? In fact, I've only caught just a few, pure Green Sunfish {longer, narrower, always much smaller, and really big mouths} How could it be that the natural hybrids are SOOO much more common than at least one half of the parent species ? This would say to me that these fish are, indeed, fertile.

I've also only caught 1... maybe 2 pure Redears.... even though I also caught that one Sunny that, even at a quick glance, looks to be a Bluegill Redear hybrid ?

Oh.... and I caught one Sacramento Perch {which I had read that Clear Lk. had.... but never heard of anybody catching one.

Anyway, I can't wait to get up there after the big Sunnies soon :-)

Clear Lake must be a vertual melting pot of sunfish species!
