Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Here are the things I carry down to the pond.
1 roll mono tippet, 4#
1 roll fluoro tippet, 4#
Assortment of flies
Leatherman Micra fishing tool.
Forceps, courtesy of Don Schmotzer.

The flies are in a recycled package, which formerly held hooks. Don left the forceps here the last time he was over.
I carry this lot in a small bubble wrap envelope.

That is the beauty of fly fishing, isn't it?

I'm not saying I only want a safety pin and a worm. I don't.
But while we live in what is probably the BEST TIME to be an angler, we can still be encouraged by a " less is more." attitude.
It also helps to be a "broke country-@ss," and little able to afford the big ticket stuff. It's a beautiful thing, once you put your mind to it.

"...I have more crap than I can use....."

Man, that describes me to a "T"!!!!!

When I first got started fly-fishing, if I hit the pond at work, I would just drop a fly box into one of the cargo pockets of my work pants, and a spool of tippet material and a pair of forceps into the other cargo pocket.  It worked pretty good.

What I don't have here are extra leaders, or tippet rings.*
Both of these items could be included, and take up no room. They probably should be added for any kit intended for use away from home.

* This bodes well for both experiments, i.e., tying soft leaders and adopting tippet rings.

I have more crap than I can use, too. And sometimes I bring a lot of it with me.
But usually, I keep it down to what I can tote in a back pack.
This was just an illustration of the essentials, as Bluto calls them.

...Yeah, McSruff...........You have the right idea......I ALWAYS carry too much stuff with me. (and somehow ALWAYS manage to leave something I needed behind)...........I guess I am in too big a hurry when I leave the house......................(warm weather is just a few weeks away)...............Don

Thats the idea, Carl.
I'm big on repurposing, especially packaging. But, hey, whatever works.

John it doesn't have to this basic... but it can be.
Case in point, the items shown here came from a week of collecting what I ACTUALLY use on each outing.
