Do you love big bluegill?
20140822—just another great day on the water… I started fishing shallow straight away. That’s right where I left them yesterday. However my spots were already taken by three local boats. The problem with fishing the heavily public lakes is everyone knows your spot. Found a school that were porpoising in about 3 to 4ft of water hit these guys with my micro light bobber setup with a gulp maggot. Crème or pink color didn’t matter they hit it as soon as the bobber hit the water. These were on the small side but could of easily filled a 2 man limit with my 6 to 7 inch slot. Coming back next week to do just that. In my search for new spots found a change in a relatively straight shoreline. A raised gravel area (probably an old roadbed or foundation before flooding) of not more than a foot and about 25 x 50 ft that led out to deep water. Lost a big fish at the boat. Left the area for an hour to cool down then came back and pulled three 9 in class gills and a 8 in class seed. Wow. Ive never seen anyone fish this area before. It looks like, noting the condition of the fish from today and the coloration of last week they may be finishing another spawning cycle. The 9.25 male gill was so thin and tail beaten up he may have been guarding a nest. I fed him a complete crawler for his inconvenience and quickly released him. the large gills and seeds were caught on a drop shot and crawler.
