20151105- Need a Siwash hook for a swap of a treble...

there is nothing more irritating than a bluegill with a mouth full of treble hook. Forget about trying to find a Siwash hook at a bait store... nearly impossible to find and if you do it seems like they are all over sized.

Just trim the two hook shanks off the supplied treble and your in business. Not a new hack a lot of ice fisherman do this.

i hear ya carl.tried weightin the hook ,using shot etc.all kind of wrecked the action.may try tungsten powder mixed with epoxy, stuff is not cheap tho.but tungsten is much heavier than lead and may be the answer.weather is still nice here so tinkering with tackle is off til the long winter sets in

thanks Jim;; I had thought of adding a split shot about 10 inches or so above the spoon to get it deep with spinng gear;; but actually just messing around to see what i can come up with.   still;; a fluttering; dying spoon; just might trigger a bite or two. tipping maybe with a piece of worm; cricket; or even corn

been messing with them myself carl.caught some fish too.i have put layers of lead tape and tryed pouring solder in them.i find they are just too light except for a flyrod.but that still doesn,t get them or keep them deep enough.gonna try some thru the ice where a real slow fall is an advantage.

as long as it hooks them,  great Carl!

Hey John;; thanks  for the compliment;; actually;; I wanted to keep it as small; and short as possible;; looking thru all of my hooks;  found this hook to be about the right length; hook size;; wont fit over two of the wire wraps of the split ring;; so;; I cut the wire back a bit to fit the hook.  should be just right for tipping if i want to;; or adding any thing else
