After seeing this link I am now convinced the snake I photographed is a Northern Water Snake. The older ones are black and not as banded looking .

What I want to know is did the Black "Gillinator" Water Snake actually swallow the gill?

I am very much confused because water snake photos i've been viewing show more of a banded pattern.

Here is a Black or maybe a Rat snake photo I took the same day very far away from the pond I fished .Gotta admit now
they look the same.
