Do you love big bluegill?

I guess the amphibs haven't checked the calendar lately. A little late in the year for a big old nest like this!

No John, doubt it. I just thought since there were so many little frogs around,
they were connected.
After reading up, I doubt there are any real predators for these Bryozoans. I've never seen anything anywhere near them, although I guess small fry might be tempted.

I sent the photo to an expert at SCDNR and he ID'd it as a bryozoan.
It's a colony, of filter feeding invertebrates. They're kinda like freshwater corals, without the calcite exoskeleton. And their breeding is really cool. First they extend their.... Well, never mind.

Almost isn't a frogs egg nest?
There thousands of little half inch frogs at the waters edge too.

Looks like some type bryozoan, otherwise known as "moss animals".
