Thanks, Greg! Yes, David, I turn the handle on a Jet Mini-Lathe, then spend a few (or several in this case, as I was learning) days getting the finish right on the wood, then glue and clamp up the handle on a threaded rod to make sure the reel seat is flush to the wood, then after the glue has dried a few or several hours I glue the handle onto the rod. I bought the wood from a company that specializes in dyeing wood for reel seats and rod handles - comes in a square block like pen turners use but larger diameter.
BEAUTIFUL WORK ON A LONG HANDLE! YOU must use a lathe and then fit finished handle to rod? Wonderful use of natural materials!
Another BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF WORK!!!!!! LOVE THE CONTROVERSY ROD!!!!!! :-)
Thanks for the compliments, guys! Most of the past month has been occupied by working on these two - they were my first two rods with wood handles, so it took some time.
I like it!!!! Beautiful rod, Walt.
Beautiful work Walt!
