Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Got this near 24 inch bass today on a 4 inch senko at a local pond. Was fishing by myself, so I took a couple of hasty photos and then got her back in the water. Don't know how much she weighed. Doesn't matter...Im happy!

We have actually caught and released this exact fish 4 times to my knowledge. At 23 to 24 inches during those times, the fish ranged from 7.5 to 8.5 lbs...it is 1/4 inch shorter than the current MD record, which weighed in at a very beefy 11 lbs. 3 ozs. Didn't weigh her this time, but check out the size of the bass's head compared to my hand. We believe this to be a very old fish that may die within the next few years. She's heavy in the spring with eggs, then stresses in the late summer, losing weight. A great fish!

Jim that is big fish!! Looks like it can be all of 4.5lbs maybe even more. Leave it up to you to worry more about the fishes survival than taking full picture. Just playing! Great catch !

Jim have you thought about giving Linda the 2lb test rod while you retain the 17 lb test line? That's if you can get away with getting her to agree how sporting it is for her!:)

Thanks for all the nice compliments everybody! Linda got a little cocky last week when she 'out bassed' me 13 to 3 with a near five lb kicker. This outta' shut her up for a while...or at least until she whups up on me again!
