Thanks guys!
Adam...our average fish is about like yours...10 to 12 inch standard issue stockers to fill a 5 fish limit, which, at the right time and right place, can happen in a hurry. However a 14 to 16 inch fish is not too unusual here in MD. For the past 10 years or so, the DNR has been stocking brood fish from 4 to 10 pounds in many waters...one here, two there, etc. It gives anglers a chance at a trophy trout that is always a special treat, even PB material for most of us. PA does likewise, which is where I got my personal best stocker of 23 inches and 5 1/4 lbs.
Nice fish, Jim. Do you have a reasonable chance at catching fish this size from the trout releases in your area, or is this a particularly good fish? Just curious how it compares to Ohio. Most of the fish we catch from the trout stockings by the ODNR are in the 10"-11" range, some a little bigger, some smaller. The biggest I got this year was a 13" and that's my best since I started fishing for these a few years back. I bet this fish was a blast on UL gear.
… indeed!!
