Bluecats are more predator than scavenger. Channels will scavenge, but when they get BIG, they are predators as well. Flatheads rarely take anything but live bait. Bullheads, well, they are scavengers. They eat ANYTHING.
I've caught cats on lures. I've read accounts of folks catching Channels, Blues, and Flatheads, all on lures. It does happen.
I have probably caught decent channel cats, about 2 dozen times in my lifetime, on lures of some sort...spinners, crankbaits, jigs and plastic worms. My sons best channel, a 29.5 incher, came on a 1/32 oz jig!
Dang that's a good one. Back home there were several days where i'd catch some pretty good sized cats on a 1/32nd beetlespin tipped with a nightcrawler.
Thats a nice Catfish! On a spinnerbait LOL.
Good Cat,Derrick! Many years ago my fishing buddy caught a 6lb. channel cat on a Johnson Silver Minnow while bass fishing. You just never know what may hit when you are fishing. I caught 2 channels and a bullhead on a Gronaw grass shrimp a couple of weeks ago. Another friend of mine once caught a 12 lb. channel on a cricket fished a foot under a float while brim fishing.
Why is this weird?
