Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

These are my goto Bluegill flies. The middle left is a soft hackle and I use various colors, orange, yellow, green and sometimes natural colors of browns and greens. The popper is a new design for me. I have always used cork in stead of craft foam.

I will also say that all of these flies are fairly simple to tie. The Blind Squirrel gives me the most problems. I struggle with the squirrel tail wing.

Thanks for the compliments. I am kind of a hack tier myself. Most of these flies I have been using for several years or at least variations of them. The Blind Squirrel is a new pattern for me. I found it last summer while searching for carp patterns. I tied up half a dozen in a couple of sizes. I don't have any carp in my local creeks but I have caught everything in the creek on these. I think they pass for both a nympth and a small crawdad. SMB and Rock Bass really like them. BG like the size 10 versions and even the chubs will eat them. ...The upper left fly is tied on a scud hook but is actually a old time Wooly Worm with a red tail and grisly hackle. It works just as well on normal straight shank hook. Maybe even better. This one has beadchain eyes so it will act like a Headstand fly used for carp. All the fish in my creeks will eat it as well. All of these flies have been great producers for me in streams and still water.

Those are some killer bugs you tied Ray. I like the scud in the upper left corner.

Some great stuff on here Ray! I have to agree with everything you've said. Jim I tie those lil spider beetles also, the fish really like them and their quick and easy to tie. I'm kind of a slow fumble finger fly tier so easy is best for me :) I also loose a lot to trees, stumps, weeds, lilly pads and Bass so they have to be Cheap also.
