Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Ever since I started fishing on my own, I have been getting bait and fishing advice from Don at Don's Bait and Tackle on Imperial Ave in Encanto. This was the oldest bait shop in San Diego (40 years). He had the fattest redworms in town and would always dump the worms out in a shallow cardboard box to ensure you had a lively and plentiful cup. When I worked at Cal west Appliance in the early 90's, I even serviced his bait cooler and freezer. R.I.P Don. We are gonna miss you!

Great memories Andre Sturkey! We still don't have any redworms worth taking fishing since Don was called home.

WOW… Well I don’t get on online often but as fishing season in Maryland is just picking up I was thinking about Don.  I know this is over a year late, but Dwayne I truly feel what you are saying sir!  I’m a South East native born in 1982 and grew up right there off of Woodman around the corner from Don’s.  Don’s will always be special to me for his laugh and custom good morning he would give.  My Grandfather would only by his red worms, and I can still vividly remember Don opening at 7am, us being the first customers and every box of bait you bought from Don, he would dump out in front of you to show you how alive those worms were!  Don and my Grandfather are forever linked to this passion I have called fishing!  Don was great human and he will forever be cemented in fondest memories of my growing up.  Rest in peace my friend job well done.
