I've never caught a fish that big, Jim. LOL!
I go fishing, but If I catch a few bluegill, I figure I've had a good day.
I use the fluorocarbon-braid sections on my light rigs when bottom fishing for shell cracker.
The stuff is tougher, for the tough bottom. The fluoro is there because red ear are leader shy.

i used to use the fluro leader but had big fish pull so hard the braid sliced thru the fluro.probably not a problem with panfish.i don't like weak links in my line tho and i keep my stuff moving so the line spooking them has not been a problem.i think a small section of braid on top of mono could get buried in the spool.braid takes some getting used too but i love it.it is pricey but i have had the same line on some reels for years now.i have warn out reels and just put the same line on the new one

I like to use the super lines as sections. A length of fluorocarbon leader, an intermediate section of super stuff and an anchor section of mono

i think it is 6 lb.but being braid it is super thin.one of the good tings about the superlines is you can use it for years.the drawbacks are the price,it is very light and floats and i use a normal cinch not but i always add to over hand knots to lock it as the knot wants to slip.the crystal is white but does kinda disappear when wet.one thing i learned is to ALWAYS manually flip the bail close as it is very easy tangle around the spool if you let it engage auto matically

thanks for the reply Jim Are you using 2,3,4#test ?

Comment by jim cosgrove on February 16, 2014 at 11:52am

john i use fireline crystal on my ultra lights, not cheap but is like spider web and very strong.no stretch so a slight lift for a hook set.i can really feel every little bump.i am still looking for thr tungsten powder.the cheapest i found is for weighting golf clubs.seems to be theme.loon the fly tying supply wants 55.00 for a little bottle.the golf supply is 19.95 for 4 oz.

I am curious if 4# test line is a workable test line for these ,if your fishing in or around weeds 6# test would be safer from breaking .Do you have a super line ,that's thin diameter ,abrasion resistant and low memory in mind to use with these Jim ?

not sure william,i dont have a small scale.these are just some thing i have been tinkering with.they are some what cast able.i am trying to get them to wobble more on the retrieve.they really flutter on a twitch pause retrieve.waiting for open to refine them more

Jim,

Any idea how much these weigh? If you're using them on spinning gear are you using a weight ahead of them? I'm shore casting so weight may be more important to me.
