All fixed spool spinning reels require a full spool to cast well.
I often back the "main" line with old mono or Dacron to get the fullness.
I really appreciate you commenting on the Z11. Always a Zebco fan, I'd like to try one of the 11T's.
Zebco also has a larger 33T, which I like too.
I just got a Shakespeare Synergy UL, trigger spin. I've had one before; a Z11 to compare it to would be awesome.
I'll end up with one, I'm sure.

The Zebco 11 is great little ultra- reel, it simple and reliable and would be a great reel for a kid to start ultra-light fishing. I have only used 4lb test mono line but it doesn't seem to matter what brand but you must keep it full or It won't cast properly. I have used the trigger spin model 11T and it worked well also.
