My guess is it's a Female Hybrid from a Green Sunfish x Pumpkinseed Cross!!!!

Here's a link that shows good pictures of various sunfish.


While my fish looks fairly similar to the first pumpkinseed photo (which I'd be inclined to argue with their i.d. on that one...looks like a hybrid to me), none of these fish I've caught have the distinct red on the opercle.

You've got me wondering too, now, John. Maybe I'm misidentifying my fish? Maybe MuskieMod or others can weigh in? We generally have bluegills in the waters around here, and a few green sunfish. The fish I occasionally catch seem to be a hybrid between the two species. Or at least I've thought so.

Do Pumpkinseeds have small mouths like a bluegill, or a larger mouth like a green sunfish?
