My son caught a 6.5 pounder last summer and he fought great. Didn't have a net because I was sure I could grab anything we caught - canoe in a pond. I'd never seen one before and wasn't about to lip that puppy. Ended up using my t-shirt for a net. It was a blast. A real good fighter.

Yeah Jeremy, I was told the bowfin were trash as well...but some guys like them as they are sporty and fight better than a largemouth. I've caught a couple to 24 in and lost one around 10 lbs many years ago fishing for crappie in a pond in Florida.

I caught that thing on a B&M ultralight 10 foot telscopin fiberglass pole with 6lb line and a cricket!!!
How do you prepare it. I was always told it was a trash fish so I threw it back.
