Yea Jim White Perch are aggressive pack hunters. When fishing for them at Liberty reservoir I would schools of 20 at time taking turns attacking my jig. They almost look like tiny tuna in the way the follow moving bait and attack so swiftly. Fun Fish to catch but they can torture to grab a hold of! I had one move suddenly on me and slice my hand open with his gill as easy as fillet knife would! That slime is painful took me about 20 minutes to feel like fishing again!

Thanks, guys! The problem with white perch is that they tend to disrupt balanced, established panfish populations in many waters by overcrowding gills, crappies and the more desirable yellow perch. We found a school last Thursday that was several acres in size and caught fish for two hours! But, sheeesh, almost all of them were punks. We eeked out a couple dozen for the pan.

Although they look much alike, the white perch have very white and tasty, flaky meat that is excellent tablefare. I have never caught a white bass and do not know about their meat texture or color.
