Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Fished the past week using the Gapen 5" pencil float as a slip-float (slider) and had great results on suspended gills, crappies, walleyes over brush pile crib.

Used light leader method where I could pop the leader and get my entire rig back above the leader - shot, float, bead and knot stop - used mono self-made stopper by the way.

This method out-caught both the tight-line method and jigs for most fish.

I often use the Uni-clips in the smallest size to attach slip floats to the line.
Let's me unclip the float if I want, like yours.

This float is so cool as I can rig it for shallow water, change it to slip-float / slider rig for deep water and then can unclip it and go to a straight jig head. Very versatile fishing setup for the boat or shore fishing.

Leaders were 6" - 8" Flourocarbon - even though the water was a bit stained - never can be too careful...

How long was the leader?

Sounds pretty much the way I do it - I'm a fan of leaders in general.
And it's a rare angler that ties mono stopper knots. THAT is old school.
