Thanks Tony ,I don't take the best pics ,but these fish were caught in the months they represent .A picture is worth a thousand words ,more if the lure is in the pic too.

Thanks for appreciating Vince! I am guilty of ice fishing alone myself .

I like those pics, John. I may be too Southern fried now, but I use to like ice fishing a lot. Back before I had a boat, I felt like being on the ice leveled the playing field with those that could get to all the spots I couldn't reach from shore. There was also a special solitude I felt sitting out there, often alone on the ice. Looking back it wasn't the smartest thing to do, ice fishing alone that is.

You make a great case for gender ID as Female Tony and I feel you are more qualified than me to determine the gender of Bluegills .Thanks for showing me some things ! I 'm beginning to see the Female shape you're suggesting .

John, to me the fish looks "long" for lack of a better word, for a male. I think the shape of the fish just says female to me. The eartab is large for a female, but small for a male of that size. The color, which I do think is the least reliable indicator of sex, flat out screams female.

Either way it's an excellent presentation, and reinforces what I have been saying for a long time.... BG can be caught all year round. It can be more difficult during the colder months, but that just makes the catch that much more satisfying in my book.

"Practicing, observing, learning and sharing."

There you go. Now, to figure out where the fish have gone....

I am noticing the lighter colored breast and wondering. Is that an indication of a Female your considering?

The Sept. fish was caught in one of the nearby waters ,not like 10 months depicted in my home lake and I'm wondering what the effect on protective and gender coloration is on differing waters .The Sept. fish was caught in a lake with no houses thus no significant runoff pollution as compared  to all but one other pictured  in the calender .
