Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Mike Phua of Sun Country Marine in Ontario California was pre-fishing for a bass tournament this weekend on Lake Havasu in Arizona. He landed a redear that is tipping the scale on the boat between 5.7 and 5.9 pounds. The current world record redear (also landed at Lake Havasu in 2011) weighed 5.55 pounds. Right after this fish was caught they were trying to find a certified scale in town to get an official weight. I gotta get out there and do some serious Redear fishing!

Have some relatives (don't fish) that live in Parker. Was supposed to fish Havasu last year - didn't make it. After this pic, I'm gonna try a little harder this year!

Tony - there are a few guides, up and down the Colorado, that will guide for panfish...

What i'm curious about, is whether or not anyone is deliberately trying to pattern and learn these fish? Seems like the big fish are taken by accident......if someone could figure em' out, they might find themselves pretty popular with folks looking to hire a guide.

Just heard that the fish came out 1 ounce short of the record... after being kept in a livewell for 7 hours...  bummer.  Most serious bass tournament guys don't care about big panfish.  There's no money there..

This is just astonishing....the size of the red ears there. A world-class, bucket-list destination for sure!
