Sounds like fun . Here is a picture of a Japanese ice fishing rig. They fish it with about a #30 hook and 1/2 lb test

They work great joe! I have fished these jigs year-round for several seasons

But, there is a part two involving the line twist issue you spoke of. This time of year I have a particular method to deal with that. Hope to get details up soon.

Tony , this will work. These jigs are designed for the slow type feeding of cold water gills. Should have no trouble with large gills. Would recommend 1 or 1.5 lb test since cols water gills are line and twist sensitive.

just ordered some 1mm tung wire. gonna lash it on some hooks .over wrap with acetate floss add a wire rib then coat with epxy or uv resin.should be similar to your other pic tony.looks like were in for a long ice season this year.the wolfram i already kinda figured out.

if he puts his technique in front of big fish i believe they will bite.. now the next question would be will his tackle stand up repeatedly to large bull gills?
