Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

That's a 5" Senko and a 4/0 hook. Caught and relaesed on Camp Robinson in North Little Rock Arkansas. I'm guessing 11".

After I caught him I looked on the internet while the image was fresh in my mind and the conclusion I came to was that the fish was most likely a redear and not a hybrid but the pointed nose has me wondering. I doubt this lake has ever been stocked and the only other sunfish I caught were bluegill, warmouth and bass. I wish I had a real camera instead of a cell phone but at least I got a shot of this guy before i put him back in the lake. This guy hit like a freight train and made me think I had a 2 to 3 pound bass on.

I'm going out on a limb here, because it's impossible to be certain, but I'm going to say that's a pure redear male. The distinctiveness of red border on the eartab indicates to me that there aren't any other lepomid genes that are at work here.

Looks like a nice healthy/hungry Redear.
