Good info, Jim! I was slated to go to a medical conference in Maryland last year, and actually booked a guide to take me out of Deep Creek for 'gills. It all stemmed from me seeing this picture on the net, and the site I saw it on toting the giant 'gill fishery. Sadly, the conference was cancelled...

That's insane! What a great fish! Figures it hit a nightcrawler! Congratulations to that little kid that caught this outrageous fish!
Jim apparently this fish was too big for even 24 lb Pike to eat!

Yes...this is Sarah Brennahans' MD state record bluegill, caught at Deep Creek Lake in the extreme western panhandle of the state. Bobber and a worm, under a dock.
Interesting to note is that only one other 3 pound plus gill has been officially recorded since 2000, that being the Arizona record of 3 lbs. 15 ozs. from Goldwater Lake back in 2004.
Also of note, although hundreds of bluegills are caught from DCL every year from 1 to 1 1/2 pounds, there have been no other bluegills from this lake, officially recorded, that have exceeded the coveted 'two-pound' mark.
Still, it's a great bluegill lake, and it has a great yellow perch fishery and has produced northern pike up to 24 lbs.
