Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

20150902-took the kayak out for a spin but wasn’t feeling 100% so I stayed close to the launch… very slow bite but ended up with a nice chunk Green sunfish at 92% Master Angler Rating of 8.25” on a YammaMinnow close to cover.

thanks Bruce...

really love these fish also... my son caught a couple 3-4 inchers at the park one day a few years back and we decided to add them as pets to a 70 gal aquarium all to themselves... after 2 years got them over 7 inches before letting them go... one of their favorite foods  was a big fat nite crawler

slip stinker;; for what its worth;; I catch a lot of these  in my area;; close to the bank;; usually around rocky banks;; very shallow water.  they love nite crawlers !!

They've been pretty rare to me also... but its a different way of fishing... tight to cover and the bank... im going to start doing more often

BTW the two I took were pretty tight to the bank like yours . One took a small Jig Spin and the other a small spoon tipped with a piece of crawler . This was about 4 years ago .

Nice fish Ken .I 've only caught  a few Greenies and it was out of a local Lake /River system .I don't see them at all in other waters around here.

thanks guys!

9" is the Master Angler target for these guys and 8.2" is now my personal best for this species. i used to catch alot of them fishing along the seawalls on Duck Lake as a kid tight to the bank... just like this one was caught shallow with a sandy bottom under a log tight to the bank.
