If you can you always need to give a good home to an old outboard motor, and if you can get it running more power to you. I still have my Dad's first outboard motor, and I remember I was there the day he bought it, it's a 1960 Evinrude 5.5 Fisherman, and I remember it on the back of the boat when I was a kid and oh how grown up I felt when he let me run the tiller for the first time, I cant let it go , just too many memories LOFR
25 years ago I had the latest Ranger bass boat, latest electronics, best and newest in rods 'n reels. I lived and breathed bass tournaments. But then one day it just wasn't fun anymore. I witnessed the worst in cheating in my last bass tournament and loaded up my boat and quit that high pressure pastime.
These days are so much slower and sweeter. I fish very simply and enjoy it like nothing else. My rods 'n reels are from the 60's my boat 'n motor from the 50's. No hurry, no pressure. Midday naps snoozing in the chair. Helping the little ones fish, meaning untangling countless messes. Making sure my wife is catching fish and comfortable.
We catch all we want most of the time, release most of them. and go home rested and refreshed instead of tired and frustrated.
Earl-- that's great buddy repairing old motors the way you do putting life back into them congrats!! but I wont tell you ive got a old brass prop! for my boat!!!
Maybe I should keep my eye out for some old outboards.
This one today makes my 3rd 1958 model. 7 1/2 hp. 10 hp. and 18 hp. It's an obsession NOT an addiction!
