Hi Rob, Yes I have made several very large Bluegill and Redear mounts, all fiberglass reproductions and some of these I believe are hanging in the Mini-mart at Lake Castaic. When you have a few 3 to 4 pound panfish mounts on display, it can really fire up the fishermen! Me included! Here in southern California we are fortunate to have some really big sunfish in some of our lakes, including my local Lake Perris. As to your other question, Perris Bluegill are biting pretty good in April/May and usually the bite stays fair to good until the cooler weather in October. In the hot summer months a heavy growth of water plants grow all along the shallow shorelines making it difficult to fish from shore. The fish are there, but you either have to fish from a boat or float tube and fish the outside deeper edges.

Forgot to mention that all the sunnies I saw on that baitshop/gas station wall where this size approx. I will never forget it as there were about 5 or 6 of them if I remember correctly.

Jeff Have you been to Lake Castaic where they caught all the huge bass. I was there about 12years or so ago I was working in the San Berdoo area at the time and I stopped in the gas station that leads in to the park where you go to fish at the lake.

I ask because I remember a number of very huge gills or redears or something that the guy had on the wall there.Just wondering if you could shed some light on it fro me. I too had the chance to fish at Lake Perris when I was living there but I think our timing for catching gills was off as we started fishing late April or May and I think everything had moved off the shore to deeper water at the time, or maybe not as I was not very knowledgeable about any SoCal lakes at that time or this time for that matter.

Wow! What a nice trophy fish!

Lake Perris must be one of the best trophy bluegill lake in the USA! This is 3rd over 2 lbs in that lake that I know so far!
