Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

had one of my best outings so far this year.I got to the lake around 5:30 pm,there was a slight breeze and chop on the water.I got bit on my first cast,a gill smacked my bobber then my jig.I thought all right this is great. After a few more casts I switched colors, caught a few then change again. They really liked a solid black and orange/white hair jig, sometimes plain and sometimes tipped with a gulp waxie. The gills kept smackin my bobber so i put a foam spider on with a casting bubble, they liked that but I kept getting tangled.I caught a few on a Blue Fox spoon before changing to a firetiger 1" rapala.I fished with that about the last hour.It was awesome watchin them slam the rapala on the surface. They would hit a slow retrieve also. Most of the gills were keepers but i turned then loose.Quite a few of them were dark colored males with some fat females mixed in.

Hey Steve I've also had good luck with the Orange headed jig. The one that's been workin for me is the 1/32 oz with a 1 1/2" smoke with blue flake tube, no bate added. Useing 2 lb. golden Stren with a 2' flor. carben leader, then letting it go to the bottom and bounceing it back along the bottom. With the golden line I see a lot of hit's that I dont feel. Another thing that's been workin for me is the smallest Beatle spin with the little Fin-s Shad below.
