Hey Dick,
I was browsing thru the site, and just now realized that you too are from Fulton County (I am from rural Wauseon). I mostly fish Wamplers Lake in Brooklyn, MI, with some pretty good success. It's loaded with big bluegills and some really nice red ears. I'd love to share some notes on blugill fishing in our area.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Dick! Bream fishing has always occupied a special place in my heart and am glad to have found a spot catering to those of us with similar whimsies. A cab-over bluegill was my first fish and am fortunate enough to still have the opportunity to fish for red ear with my 73 year old mother (her absolute favorite fish). Thanks again...
Thanks Dick. I appreciate the welcome. I am looking forward to being a regular visitor to this site. I am impressed with the info and posts I have viewed so far.
Sorry it took me so long to reply. I am still trying to figure out my way around the site.
I took my son out for some bluegill fishing yesterday, and wouldn't you know it, the first thing he caught was a 14" LG mouth Bass. Shortly after that I caught an 8" Redear. Two hours latter my son hooked a 17" LG Mouth. You never know what you will catch in the canals of Cape Coral, Fl. All of these fish were caught on worms.
I tried fishing with Beetle Spins, but nothing seemed to be interested.
HI FOLKS, I AM NEW TO YOUR SITE & DON'T KNOW HOW BLOGS WORK BUT I'LL LEARN AS I GO.
I WILL BE IN SUGAR LAND TX FOR TWO WEEKS STARTING DEC 21ST & WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE IN THAT AREA TO TAKE A 7 & 4 YEAR OLD KID BLUEGILL FISHING IF ANYONE KNOWS & SHARE I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
I LIKE IN WICHITA KS & HAVE A LOT OF FARM PONDS IN THE KANSAS FLINT HILLS THAT I FISH.
Thanks David and Dick! It's great to be on board. We have Bluegill up here in the great white north, and I'm crazy about them, but an 8 incher is a real big one. When I saw the site photos today for the first time my jaw hit the floor!!
I've done underwater filming for several fishing shows (freelance - it's a hobby) and in 20 years of filming have never witnessed anything remotely close to these giants!!! I showed BobIzumi (The Real Fishing Show) the photo of a 12 inch gill (Richmond Mill Lake) and he nearly fainted!!
Dick, Thanks for the welcome message. The site looks very interesting. My kids and I love to fish for blue gills, crappie and anything else we can get after. I look forward to getting to know everyone. Happy new year!
Thanks Dick, I appreciate the welcome. Interesting site. I stopped in after
Google Imaging sunfish and here I am. What a great fish decoy that was posted in 2012. That got me here... I carve, but I can't do that well. Actually anything to do with fishing, I am in!
Thanks alot for the kind welcome, looks like I am going to be right at home at this site. Here where I live (a small town in South Africa), the Blue Gill is looked down on. Mostly because people are ignorant and use rods that haul out the Titanic with ease. I would rather catch Blue Gill on my Fly Rod, than almost any other fish!
I am originally from Georgia transplanted to Maryland after I left the USN. I am ready to get back to fishing. I grew up catching bream (brim) in south GA. I have purchased the fish to share with my family some of the tastes of my childhood. Now, I want to share with them the trill of catching them. I am looking for good places to fish in southern Maryland, Prince George's and Charles County areas.
Thanks for having me I've been a fan of catching Bluegills since I was I believe 4 years old, In 2003 I caught a State Certified Sunfish out of an old Strip mine lake it was 10 and 1/4 inches long and weighed 12 oz. was not a state record but a great catch for myself. they sent me a certificate and a pin. But yeah my favorite thing to catch is the Bluegill, most folks around here are like really you don't like catching Catfish or bass, well of course I do. Here in Sountern Ohio there are a lot of small streams and creeks that run into the Ohio River, I like finding those lost and forgotten small farm ponds and lakes sneaking up and dropping a line in that hasn't had a line and a bobber for many years and I tell you there are lots of old farm lands ridges and hollows that have plenty to be found. I'm glad to be apart of the site something I can relate to. :)
Dick: Thanks for the welcome!..I am a fly fisher, and fly tyer; certified by Texas Parks and Wildlife as a fly fishing instructor. I am also a member of the Dallas Flyfishers, and we have many certified instructors. We teach at high schools, colleges, senior citizens groups, boy scouts, etc, all in the North Texas area. I particularly look forward to your members' fly patterns, and recipes for tying them. I am a native Pennsylvanian, and grew up on a farm pond in the Valley Forge area. Thanks again for your welcome.
Thanks for the welcome! I found this site on a friends facebook, Randy Budzynski, I love Bluegills and pans in general so figured I would join. Good Fishing Friend.
Thanks for the welcome, with my recent relocation I'm back in the land of Smallies, Largemouth, Pike and big bream all around. Definitely will be many pictures as soon as the water thaws and I can wet a line again.
I live right on a channel at GLSM. We have always called march 15 opening day of Crappie season......well, there is still over a foot of ice on the lake...might be delayed a little bit...lol
Thanks Dick! Happy to be here. I grew up fishing for bluegill with my Grandfather-RIP, and they have always held a special place in may heart b/c of that. Glad I found BBG. Was so excited today after finding BBG, I went out and caught a few. Gorgeous afternoon here in SC!
Dick: Thanks a lot. I too, am after Bluegills. BIG Bluegillls if/when I can find them. I'm pretty lucky to live in the state of AL, which has held the world's record of 4 pounds 12 oz since 1950 in a pond just about 60 miles from my house. Biggest I have ever caught was a 2 pounder, so i guess that world record is safe around me, but you never know. I fish almost exclusively with fly rods, and tie my own flies, and I fish almost exclusively for bluegill since my part of the country has no trout, and even if it did I'd still go after the big bluegills because IMHO ounce per ounce, pound per pound, they fight harder than anything that swims. Mainly because of their "hubcap" shape and when they turn sideways in the water, you think you are hung n the bottom LOL..I had PLANNED top get out on the water today, but the wind is blowing 35mph, and it would just blow my fly line every which way but straight. Maybe tomorrow or the next day it will calm down. Thanks again, Chuck
Dick: Will do. I have a ZILLION pics of our fish (I say our as I am married and my wife loves to fish as much as i do) and Five kids, all of them love to fish as well, and I have 4 grand kids and counting I hope because spoiling then is soooo much fun LOL, and every one of them love to fish as well. We started teaching my kids and grandkids how to fish from before they could even walk very good. I just wish the zillion pics had pics of BIGGER fish LOL.....This attached pic is of me and my "baby" Freddy when he was about 3 or 4, and he is now 20 yrs old. Chuck
Hi Dick, I have actually been on before and signed up lost track of my sin in and Password. It was just as easy to sign up again as it was to go back and forth to get my old sign on and then password. Bruce had posted on PB where I go most of the time but I will continue to come back here much more often. Work and other responsibilities limit my time on the computer other than work. When I am home I try not to even turn on my computer because so much of my time on the job requires my eyeballs glued to a computer screen, if you know what I mean.
With the addition of a well last year my pond world has improved a great deal. As well last year (Fall) Overton Fisheries supplied me with 400 Jumbo Overton Select CNBG and I am excited to see what the growth rate is this year. They have a great and deserved reputation for many reasons in TX.
Thanks again for the invite and you were the first or very close the last time I signed up. Take care and great fishing to you.

I want to thank you for the kind words of welcome and encouragement. I am brand new to brim and bluegill fishing, but since I started I really enjoy it. As a matter of fact I just caught my first crappie in 2011 and I've been hooked ever since. I still like to catfish and I target the big ones when I do. I relocated to South Carolina recently after retiring and never dreamed that I would be around so much water. Looking forward to learning as much as I can...this is a wonderful fourm.
Thanks for the nice welcome Dick. I am new to any kind of internet group so it is nice to be included so soon. The site is great and I have just scratched the surface. well thank you very much for the kind invite. I am a retired US Marine, I live in a pretty rural area of NC and am quite close to the coastline.
Love to catch bluegill, sunfish etc, but biggest question is where? My wife and i traveled and cruised aboard our 33 foot sailboat "PELAGO" for close to ten years, spent huge amount of time in Caribbean, we lived on the boat all the time, and really enjoyed it, decided that things were changing, (diesel then in Vz was 18 cents a gallon delivered to Marina) now in the bahamas it is close to 8 bucks a gallon. And then 911, and these countries seemed to get hostile, my first visit to Grenada was during the invasion, even they are getting rather rough to Americans. The various fees and coruption seemed to grow and grow. The there was age and stamina.
We sold out beloved Pelago and she is still cruising, another circuit down south and now in a yard in Milwaukee getting a total refit, a wounded Iraq war vet bought her and he is using her to get his own private hell back where it belongs, (I can relate to that)
bought a 18ft Century center console with 150hp Yamaha, and we had that for vour years now it is a 14' alumacraft for fishing small lakes and rivers.
thought that here would be a place to find "spots to fish"
Think my next target is Lake Waucamau NW of Wilmington NC Wildlife claims blue gill fishing there is quite good
also am a ham radio operator and i shoot high power rifle in competition all across the country
